Today's Inspiration: I love Jean-Pierre Jeunet movies. He manages to combine twee and charm with a delicious hint of satire and the macabre and MicMacs is such a great example of this. A cute little movie that on the surface just seems to be about a bunch of lovable eccentrics, but underneath is a hot take on France's part in the global weapons trade? I'm totally there with bells on.
This is such a great example of how comedy--even gentle comedy--can be used to critique power without hitting the viewer over the head with a mallet and I've been inspired by this type of comedy in my own writing for years.
I've seen this movie so many times. As much as I love Amelie and Alien Resurrection and Delicatessen, I think this one's my favourite... If you haven't seen it, you'll find a bunch of familiar faces from French cinema, including Omar Sy who's recently having a huge moment with his show Lupin.
I'd totally recommend you watch it if you haven't!
